To be honest when I was young I could hardly understand cricket or lawn tennis or football or any other sport for that matter but used to stare at the T.V. screen intently as it was the only thing that used to run on our T.V. My father, I finally have got a chance to tell the world, is the ultimate devotee/disciple of the religion Sports. So you all can well imagine how my journey of following sports began, initially it was restricted to admiring the dashing, uber fit and handsome sports persons.. to name a few, my first love Mr.Rahul Dravid, Marat Safin, Andy Roddick Kaka and so on....
Later, I started asking the rules of the game, as a true Indian, and was swept away by Cricket first amongst all the sports, I still remember the 1996 Semi final loss of India to the then mighty Sri Lankans. From then the game started fascinating me and finally Cricket got me glued to it. I was witness to some fantastic cricket since then, from the World Cup of 1999 when Lance Klusner was adjudged as the Man of the Match though South Africa wasn't even the winner, to the Australia's Tour of India in 2000-01 and that epic match where Harbajan took a hat-trick to the when I had gone to the Eden Gardens, but on the third day and the infinte number of matches and series following that..
Tennis, my second love, though a tough competition to cricket has managed to woe me since childhood. Two weeks of the Grand Slams were always awaited with sheer excitement. The subtle rivalry between Federer and Roddick made way for the fierce rivalry between Nadal and Federer where Federer got the taste of his own medicine. And have delightfully watched all Party poopers who had time and again spoiled the run of the World'd Best, be it Fernando Gonazalez in the Australian Open or Jo Wilfred Tsonga or Marcos Baghdatis or Robert Soldering in the French Open.
At this point of time, so many matches, performances, rivalry all are coming to me but the space is too less to jot all of them down... Having said that as a follower of Sports in India, one day will always be etched in my heart... Most of you have already guessed that, Yes it is 02nd April, 2011 when our dream came true....
There is some element in sports that attracts me, draws me towards it, I guess it was always there in my genes... Surely this journey is to continue for a long long time.....
Football still has to make its way in though.... lol
All in all this an affair which is here to last!!!
Who wouldn't fall for them??
